Wow, it is coming up on 10 months! Crazy how times goes so fast. Well, as many know, i just started speed building. Which is a big milestone. I thank you all for finding my blog and always leaving kind comments and encouraging words! I am amazed that 23,000 people have found my blog. You all inspire me to not quit and keep moving forward. Thank you! So if I could go back to the Jayne on May 1st, 2014, what would i tell her? Umm, first of all, I would warn her that she will gain 5 lbs in December:) J/K. I would tell her that time management is no joke. When i stick to a practice schedule, i always make a lot of progress. I would tell her how truly great the support dept. really is. You saw it all over their website, but now i can truly say that they were not kidding. They could be considered mentors. Very encouraging people. I knew in May that i would hit hard patches, but some of the hard patches were soooo frustrating. I thought for sure, she was speaking 100 wpm in some of those drills. I thought i would never move on, but guess what? I did. Now I listen to that "hard" drill and can write it with ease. You hear it all the time, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. I even got annoyed by it "duh, you have to practice to learn it" i thought there has got to be a magic practice regime that will embed this in my brain faster. Well, Jayne of the past....it really is, boring practice, after frustrating practice, after throw your machine practice. That is it. No magic, no mystery. Now, just when you think "Man, she hates this school..." I can say with 100% certainty, I LOVE IT. As i moved through theory, the more i found how much i enjoy writing on this machine. It is a great sense of accomplishment. Yes, there were frustrating moments, and there are many on the road forward. But i really do love it. I know a few months ago i wrote that nothing is perfect. No matter what path you choose, beauty school, court reporting, nursing school, ANY school will be frustrating at times. I am still 100% happy with my decision to go with Court Reporting and Captioning at Home. No regrets at 10 months in! If you stumbled on my blog and are not enrolled, but are still gathering info...call them, don't take my word for it. I called three times before committed to the program. Anyways, email or comment to reach me. I need to get back to speed building. Good luck everyone!!!
I am almost done with theory, so this would be too soon for me. I remember when my sister finally started to go out on her own jobs, she felt so un-prepared. Her brick and mortar school, taught her to write and get fast. The ins and outs of being a COURT REPORTER, were not taught. She learned as she went. The NCRA is hosting a one and a half hour webinar, that is geared towards freelance reporters. Here is a link and description. It also counts towards your CEU's, for RPR's.

Please join this informative webinar sponsored by the NCRA Freelance Committee as we learn some of the most important things you need to know as you begin your reporting career. We will help prepare you for the other half. Presenters: Early Langley, RMR and Gail Verbano, RDR, CRR, CSR
I really want to attend the convention this summer. I have only heard great things about attending. I am trying to drag my sister with me (split hotel cost:)) Plus, it is in New York!

Whether you’re just out of theory and looking to learn more about the profession, or you’re in your 200s and in need of a mentor, conventions are your one-stop shop for encouragement, information, and networking. But as inspiring as they can be, they can also be a terrifying place for someone new on the block.
As a student, it’s easy to psyche yourself out of networking at a convention. We tend to think, “Why would she ever want to talk with me? What do I possibly have to offer? I’m just a student. They look busy. I don’t want to bother them.”
