The Forum is Up and Running

I get a lot of emails and comments from current CRAH students or future Court Reporting students. I get to chat with all these great supportive people, but some of the conversations never make my blog. Or they are in the comments portion and some people miss some great advice and tips. I have decided to add a forum for those folks who want to connect with other students. I love talking to other people who are either ahead of me or just starting out. In this type of school, you need encouragement. Since we cannot interact with Linda on a daily basis, I thought it could serve as a gathering place for help, support and a place to complain when you are having that kind of a day. I find that doing this blog and meeting people is motivating for me to keep going everyday. We will all get discouraged, instead of trying to explain  EBGS vs KP to your husband or sister. You can voice your opinion here. Where we all understand and have been there too.
The forum is up and running. This is my first website, so I am not well versed in this type of thing. I hope everyone finds it helpful. I will be adding to it daily.
My only request for those who may want to post on the forum, is to be nice. This isn't Twitter. Complain all you want, but I do not "do" mean. Thanks.

I was on the phone with my sister, talking about school among other things. She mentioned when she was in her 160's or 180's she went to a NCRA conference in Arizona. I thought that was silly, being that she had not taken her RPR yet. After hearing about her experience at the conference, I can actually see the benefit of attending.
For her, it was a big motivation to finish school, and enter the field. She talked to lots of working reporters and was given advice. She sat in seminars and attended presentations. Overall, she had a great experience.
Our conversation continued on about motivation to keep going through school and not throwing in the towel, when frustrations ran high. She also told me she joined as a student member  in the NCRA. She loved receiving the Journal of Court Reporting and read all the articles and employment pages. For her, seeing the income potential all over the nation was motivating. I can see how that could help light a fire in you to start making a nice income and start a forever career.
That being said, I looked on NCRA.Org at the cost of memebership as a student. $65.00 for a year, ending 12/31/14. However, because we are already in May the cost was $32.50. I signed up. I will post more when I start getting my subscription. Besides the JCR, you also have access to the NCRA store, they have online forums and can connect with other students. Lastly, they also have a virtual mentor program. SEE LINKS BELOW

When I got off the phone, I looked around to see when the next convention was coming up and where it will be held.
End of July this year it will be in San Francisco. (One of my fav places) Since I just started, I would never convince my hubby to spring for that trip, so I looked at next summer. 2015 conference will be in New York. 2016 in Chicago. 2017 in Las Vegas.
I also want to add that my state (Washington) has conferences as well. These would be less costly for travel expenses. I will have to look into it further. Click below to find your local association. I am not buying plane tickets anytime soon, but it is still fun to look and dream that maybe next summer I will be far enough along to make it worth while to attend the New York conference. Fingers Crossed. Plus, I really need a vacation:)
